Building Excellence: Maleah Taylor-Michel

June 9th, 2026

Behind every elevator system on campus is a network of coordination, communication, and organization that keeps passengers navigating Florida State buildings with ease. As an Administrative Assistant with the Elevator Shop at FSU Facilities, Maleah Taylor-Michel plays an important role in supporting daily operations and helping ensure service requests, inspections, modernization projects, and emergency responses are handled efficiently.

Since joining FSU Facilities in November 2025, Taylor-Michel has become a key point of coordination for the Elevator Shop. Her responsibilities include creating, tracking, and monitoring service calls and work orders, coordinating technician dispatch based on priority and availability, and following up on active or overdue jobs to help minimize downtime across campus. She also manages inspection records, permits, certificates of operation, and compliance documentation to support ongoing regulatory requirements.

In addition to supporting day-to-day operations, Taylor-Michel assists with modernization projects by tracking schedules, approvals, submittals, and project milestones while helping maintain clear communication between project managers, vendors, technicians, and customers. Her attention to detail and organizational skills help keep projects and operations moving efficiently.

Before coming to FSU, Taylor-Michel worked as an administrative assistant at an accounting firm and previously served as a pharmacy technician at Kroger Pharmacy. She also attended the University of Kentucky, where she studied agricultural, medical, and biotechnology fields, and is currently continuing her education as a student.

“My favorite part about working at FSU is how kind and friendly everyone is,” she said. “There is always someone to assist me or show me something that I would not have known if I hadn’t taken the initiative to ask. The team I work with is amazing and makes things not only manageable but purposeful.”

Outside of work, Maleah enjoys reading, writing poetry, playing video games on her Xbox, making miniature DIY houses, and hiking. She also has three pets — two rabbits and a calico cat — and says her supportive family has been an important source of encouragement throughout her journey.
