General Maintenance Technician (Levels 1-2)

Performs preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and building automation systems to ensure safe and efficient facility operations. Maintains equipment such as pumps, motors, valves, compressed air systems, control devices, electrical components, and plumbing fixtures while diagnosing and resolving operational issues. Complies with all safety regulations and training requirements, coordinates with maintenance staff on complex repairs, and utilizes AiM mobile devices to manage work orders. Operates campus vehicles and equipment, provides high-quality customer service, and supports additional facility maintenance activities including painting, sheetrock repair, door hardware maintenance, and backup utility plant operations as needed.
Responsibilities
- Performs preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs to mechanical equipment, including, but not limited to replacing/repairing belts, pulleys, actuators, valves, pneumatics, alignment, compressed air systems, fans, steam trap rebuilds, and pumps. Performs other preventative maintenance or repairs for items such as hardware, door closures, etc.
- Performs preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs to electrical equipment including repairing/replacing switches, outlets, breakers (limited), motor wiring, fixture replacement, ballasts, and re-lamping.
- Performs preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs to building control systems including repairing/replacing actuators, sensors, variable speed drives, thermostats, terminal level devices (TEC/DXR), control wiring, UPS, relays, and other control components as required.
- Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs to plumbing systems. Duties include repairing faucets, valves, pipes, drains (including unclogging), toilets, and other plumbing-related items
- Completes required safety training and complies with all safety standards including but not limited to: lock out-tag out, safe handling of refrigerant, confined space safety, safe handling of hazardous chemicals, participation in campus safety teams, and wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE). Reports complex and/or unusual problems to the supervisor and coordinates with other Maintenance staff as required to complete complex tasks.
- Operates mobile equipment and/or campus vehicles including trucks, golf carts, personnel lifts, and forklifts and maintains licensure and completes required training. Strives to provide excellent service to campus areas as measured by the 5-star program. Demonstrates proficient use of AiM mobile devices to complete work orders. Other duties as needed, including backup plant operator duties in Utilities, painting, sheetrock patching, and repairing door closures and hardware.
