Performs advanced troubleshooting, repair, calibration, and maintenance of complex building automation and mechanical systems, including HVAC controls, variable speed drives, boilers, chillers, lab controls, and communication networks such as BACNet and ModBus. Conducts network diagnostics, calibrates control devices and sensors, and coordinates with technical support staff, engineers, and maintenance teams to resolve system issues efficiently. Maintains proficiency in mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and control system tasks while ensuring compliance with safety standards, PPE requirements, and operational procedures. Operates campus vehicles and equipment, utilizes AiM mobile devices for work order management, and provides high-quality customer service while supporting utility operations and other maintenance activities as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced troubleshooting tasks for complex building systems such as variable speed drive replacement, machine-specific controllers repair or replacement, air compressors controls, boiler controls, heat exchangers, fume hoods, lab controls, and chiller controls.
  • Perform network diagnostics for FLN and BLN Ethernet and other communication systems.  Must be able to set up TECs on BACNet, P1, ModBus, KNX, and other networks used in the control systems.
  • Perform all tasks as described in the Maintenance Technician position description, including basic mechanical, electrical, control, and plumbing tasks.
  • Perform calibrations for sensors, controllers, flow meters, and other measurement devices.
  • Coordinate with the Siemens on-site support technician to identify and repair components causing system faults. Coordinate with the energy engineer and other FSU team members to resolve complex system problems.
  • Completes required safety training and complies with all safety standards, including, but not limited to: lock out-tag out, safe handling of refrigerant, confined space safety, safe handling of hazardous chemicals, participation in campus safety teams, and wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).  Reports complex and/or unusual problems to the supervisor and coordinates with other Maintenance staff as required to complete complex tasks.
  • Operates mobile equipment and/or campus vehicles, including trucks, golf carts, personnel lifts, and forklifts, and maintains licensure and completes required training.  Strives to provide excellent service to campus areas as measured by the 5-star program. Demonstrate proficient use of AiM mobile devices to complete work orders. Other duties as needed, including back-up plant operator duties in Utilities, and assisting other specialists or maintenance technicians.
