Building Excellence: Michael Kyser 

If you’ve ever admired a beautifully maintained flower bed, a thriving new tree, or a colorful container planting around FSU’s campus, there’s a good chance someone like Michael Kyser helped make it happen. As a groundskeeper with FSU Facilities’ Grounds & Landscaping team, Kyser has spent the past year and a half helping keep grounds and green spaces healthy, and beautiful. 

Before joining the FSU team, Kyser worked as a groundskeeper for a private estate in Tallahassee. He also has a special connection to the university as an FSU graduate, earning his B.S. in Physical Science. 

These days, Kyser spends his time traveling across campus, making sure plants get the care they need. His responsibilities include watering pots, flower beds, new plants and trees, and anything else that needs a little extra hydration. He also prunes and weeds pots and plants to keep them looking their best. His typical day starts by filling up a large water tank before heading out across campus to tackle his watering route and take care of plants along the way. 

One of Kyser’s favorite parts of the job is getting to see so much of the campus. From the College of Law to Doak Campbell Stadium, his work takes him to all corners of the university and gives him a firsthand look at the beauty of FSU. It’s a job that keeps him moving and gives him plenty of opportunities to appreciate the campus he helps care for every day. 

 

 

When he’s not keeping FSU green, Kyser fully embraces his inner nerd. He enjoys anything in the world of books, superheroes, video games, anime, and manga. But there’s one interest that stands above the rest: college football. As a proud alum, Kyser loves cheering on FSU and supporting his team. 

Behind Michael’s strong work ethic is a family who has always supported him. He credits his parents with instilling that work ethic in him from a young age and says his amazing girlfriend helps keep him grounded through both the good and challenging moments. For Kyser, family has played a huge role in helping him become the person he is today, and he’s grateful for them every step of the way.
