Performs skilled installation, inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of campus irrigation systems to support the health and appearance of university landscapes. Operates and maintains computerized irrigation controllers, sprinkler heads, solenoid valves, wiring, backflow devices, pipes, valves, and related components, diagnosing problems, repairing leaks, and replacing faulty parts.

Supervises and coordinates Grounds maintenance operations across campus zones, overseeing personnel, equipment, materials, turf management, mowing, weed and pest control, and landscape maintenance. Assigns and inspects work, trains and evaluates employees, manages staffing, leave, timekeeping, performance, and disciplinary matters, and promotes safe and effective work practices.

Performs skilled tree care and campus grounds maintenance, including tree trimming, pruning, planting, removal, stump grinding, and related landscape activities, using chainsaws, bucket trucks, and other specialized equipment. Operates heavy equipment such as dump trucks, grapple trucks, cranes, loaders, excavators, tractors, and stump grinders to safely and efficiently complete tree and grounds projects.

Responsibilities include mowing, edging, pruning, mulching, watering, weed control, debris and litter removal, planting trees and shrubs, turf maintenance, and landscape installation and renovation.

Serves as the university’s subject matter expert and program leader for vertical and horizontal transportation systems, ensuring campus elevators comply with Florida statutes, regulations, and safety requirements. Oversees the campus-wide elevator maintenance program, including preventive maintenance, inspections, permits, shutdowns, repairs, emergency response, entrapments, and return-to-service approvals.

Performs surplus property transportation, warehouse, inventory, and material handling operations for the university. Picks up, delivers, loads, unloads, organizes, and moves surplus equipment, furniture, and materials using trucks, trailers, forklifts, pallet jacks, and other equipment.

Performs routine groundskeeping and landscaping maintenance across assigned Florida State University properties to maintain a safe, clean, sustainable, and attractive campus environment. Performs mowing, edging, raking, mulching, blowing, weed control, pruning, watering, debris and trash removal, and spreading of landscape materials such as pine straw, bark, and rocks. Assists with planting trees and shrubs, turf maintenance, soil preparation, turf removal, and resodding.

Supervises and coordinates the daily activities of a grounds maintenance work unit by planning work assignments, training employees, monitoring performance, and supporting staffing, scheduling, and timekeeping functions.
