The Industrial Safety & Health Engineer is a new position within the EHS team that was created to provide hands-on support within the Facilities Maintenance organization. This role is focused on identifying and evaluating safety and health hazards, preventing workplace-related injuries and illnesses, responding to EHS concerns, and ensuring compliance with safety standards. Through this work, the role strengthens FSU’s risk posture and helps ensure a safe, healthy campus environment that advances the university’s mission as it continues to grow.

Develops, implements, and manages the institution's chemical safety program by ensuring compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, DEA, and applicable state regulations. Conducts laboratory inspections, hazard assessments, and regulatory audits; evaluates engineering controls; and oversees corrective actions to promote a safe research environment.

Administers and oversees the university's laser safety program by developing policies, conducting hazard assessments, performing facility inspections, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and industry safety standards. Serves as the Certified Laser Safety Officer, providing training, investigating incidents, maintaining laser inventories and records, and managing laser decommissioning activities

Administers and supports the university's radiation safety program by evaluating radioactive material use proposals, conducting laboratory inspections, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, and serving as the Radiation Safety Officer when needed.

Serves as the Building Code Authority, overseeing building and fire safety compliance, issuing permits, and conducting inspections to ensure university facilities meet local, state, and federal regulations. Manages technical, administrative, and budgetary aspects of the Building Code Office, develops policies, collaborates with campus and external stakeholders, and promotes a safe and compliant campus environment through inspections, audits, investigations, and training programs.

This role manages and coordinates the University’s self-insurance and commercial insurance programs, including automobile and general liability coverage, claims coordination, reporting, billing, and litigation support

Manage and coordinate Department of Financial Services Self Insurance Trust Fund insurance programs (automobile and general liability) to include claims coordination, reporting, billing, and litigation support. Manage and coordinate Department of Management Services brokered commercial insurance products (excluding equipment breakdown) to include securing coverage, claims coordination, reporting, and billing. Provide guidance and training to the university community and claimants concerning insurance policies and claim filing procedures.
